Ryan McNaughton:
Therefore, we call on the International Community to:
- Create (where they do not already exist) LGBT+ liberation (representative) groups within member parties and federations/states.
- Immediately condemn the anti-gay legislation recently introduced in Uganda and call on the Ugandan government to immediately reverse this decision.
- Seek to introduce legislation (where elected representatives are able) to enable LGBT+ hate crimes to be prosecuted and recorded specifically.
- Commit to challenging homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all and any forms of discrimination.
- Include LGBT+ Rights and a commitment to continual progress of LGBT+ equality as part of any continual commitments.
Hon Dr Frank Habineza:
I would like to propose a clear and strong condemnation for the the harshest anti -LGBTIQ law in Uganda. A resolution from Global Greens condemning and calling for the repeal of the law.
Hon Dr Frank Habineza:
Julius Nebel (Bündnis90/Die Grünen):
The LGBTQIA+ community is under attack around the world with growing rates worldwide of violence and hate speech as well as homophobia and transphobia directly aimed at the community.
Despite international outrage, the president of Uganda signed the “Anti-Homosexuality Act” on May 26th 2023. It heavily restricts freedom of speech with regards to human rights of queer people and criminalises certain same-sex acts even with the death penalty.
This law was supported by an international alliance of right wing organisations and Christian fundamentalists who are supporting legislation around the world that criminalises the LGBTQIA+ community or endorse violence against the community. This affects especially trans people who are among the most vulnerable of the community.
Hence, we call on the Global Greens and the broader International Community to:
Immediately condemn the anti-gay legislation recently introduced in Uganda and call on the Ugandan government to immediately reverse this decision. As Global Greens, we especially condemn the death penalty of the Ugandan anti LGBTIQ legislation because we are committed to elimination of death penalty globally
Create (where they do not already exist) LGBT+ liberation (representative) groups within member parties and federations/states.
Seek to introduce legislation (where elected representatives are able) to enable LGBT+ hate crimes to be prosecuted and recorded specifically and to protect queer people more generally.
Commit to challenging homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all and any forms of discrimination.
Include LGBT+ Rights and a commitment to continual progress of LGBT+ equality as part of any continual commitments.
Finally, the Global Greens Congress in 2023 reaffirms the 2017 resolution to establish a Global Greens LGBTI+ Network comprising representatives across all Federations as an international network for LGBTI+ Green activists and organisations affiliated to the Global Greens.
Raul Guzman:
