Resolution text

Global Greens will:

  1. Uphold the rights of Children.
  1. Support strategies and campaigns against child marriage.
  1. Endorse changes in legislation and policy to end child marriage.
  1. Endorse family planning and maternal health for married girls.
  1. Endorse girl-centred investments to empower girls with tailored
    information, skills and education.
  1. Ensure easier access to reporting criminality and convicting perpetrators
    of child marriage.

Reason

  • Child marriage undermines children’s human rights and traumatises their lives and derails any future opportunities and prospects
  • Child brides are more likely to become pregnant and experience complications, and this is reported to be the leading cause of death among adolescent girls
  • Child brides are more vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections including HIV
  • Child brides have not had the opportunity to access education and social support
  • Reporting criminality is critical and convicting perpetrators of child marriage is integral for children’s safety and protection.
